What's New
What's new at CapitalCalcs
We improve the calculators often. Here's a running log of new features, refinements, and fixes — newest first.
August 29, 2026
New
- Mortgage Refinance calculator — compare the mortgage you have against the one you’re being offered. See the monthly difference, how many months it takes to earn back the closing costs, and the total interest on each side. It also warns you when a lower monthly payment is being paid for with a longer loan — the case where refinancing can lower your payment and still cost you more overall.
- How do dividends work? — a plain-English guide to dividend yield, payout ratio, and the ex-dividend date. Covers how funds pass income through to you, what reinvesting actually does over time, and why the highest yield on a list is rarely the best one.
- Hot wallet vs. cold wallet — how each type of crypto wallet works, what each one does and doesn't protect against, why your seed phrase matters more than anything else, and the practical setup most people settle on.
- Common crypto scams and how to avoid them — almost every crypto scam is a variation on a handful of patterns. The red flags they share, how to protect yourself, and what to do if you've already been caught.
Improved
- Sharing any guide now shows a proper preview card with its title and description on LinkedIn, Slack, iMessage and Facebook, instead of a blank box.

Improved
- The whole site has more depth — cards now sit gently above the page with soft, layered shadows instead of looking flat, in both light and dark mode.
- Charts got a visual upgrade: smooth color fades under the lines, rounded bars, and a larger, easier-to-read donut breakdown with a bigger total in the center.
- Main buttons have a subtle color depth that makes them feel more tactile.
- The AI Helper can now answer general educational crypto questions — like "what is XRP?" or "how does staking work?" — to match the Crypto Hub. It still won't give buy/sell advice or predict prices, and if you ask about today's news or current prices it will point you to the Crypto Hub's live data instead of guessing.
Fixed
- On calculators like Mortgage and 401(k), two of the donut chart segments were rendering in the same color, making them impossible to tell apart. Each segment is now clearly distinct — and the small legend dots match their slices again.

New
- Sign in with Google — create your CapitalCalcs account or sign in with one click, no password to remember. Your email is verified automatically, so saving scenarios works right away. (Email + password sign-in still works exactly as before.)
Improved
- A cleaner, more polished look across the whole site: every calculator card, section header, and button now uses a crisp new icon set that matches the site's colors in both light and dark mode (replacing the old emoji icons).
- The background colors and glows across the site have been retuned to the site's warm green-and-gold palette — including the charts, which now draw in deeper, richer tones.
- Our "page not found" screen got the same refresh, so it no longer looks like a different website.
- Calculator input fields got a major upgrade: they're larger and easier to tap, the numbers you type are bigger and clearer, and every dollar field now shows a $ sign right inside the box.
- Typing in a field now shows a clear green focus ring, so you always know where you are in the form.
- The "Save this scenario" and "Track as a goal" buttons are now proper buttons with icons — easier to spot and tap.
- Calculator page titles are cleaner — the descriptive tagline now sits on its own elegant line under the title instead of wrapping awkwardly through it.
- The rotating insight cards on the homepage are easier to use on phones: bigger arrows and dots that don't require pixel-perfect taps.
Fixed
- Chart lines and result highlights that were hard to read in light mode now use higher-contrast colors.

New
- The Crypto Portfolio Tracker now records sells, not just buys — so you can see your realized profit/loss separately from your unrealized (still-held) gains.
- Added Transfer in and Transfer out for airdrops, staking rewards, and coins moved between wallets. Free coins come in at $0 cost; moving coins out no longer shows a fake gain or loss.
- Import your history straight from CoinMarketCap. Export your portfolio to CSV and load it in — we match every coin to live prices and bring in your full buy, sell, and transfer history in one step.
- Every transaction now has an optional Notes field — label what it was ("airdrop", "moved to Ledger", and so on).
Improved
- Holdings beyond the most popular coins now pull a live price too, so small-cap and newly listed tokens value correctly.
June 27, 2026
Improved
- A fresh new look. We redesigned CapitalCalcs with a cleaner, more readable editorial style — warmer colors, clearer typography, and less visual clutter. The site now opens in light mode by default, with dark mode always a click away.

New
- New Credit Card Payoff calculator — see exactly when you'll be debt-free, the total interest you'll pay, and how much faster (and cheaper) even a small extra monthly payment makes it.
- New High-Yield Savings calculator — project what your cash could earn, and see how much more a high-yield account makes than a basic one over time.
- Two new plain-English guides to go with them: How to pay off credit card debt faster and Are high-yield savings accounts worth it?
Improved
- The Rent vs. Buy calculator now spells out its assumptions — what's included (down payment, mortgage, taxes, maintenance and equity) and what's not (selling costs, insurance) — so the result is easier to read in context.
Fixed
- Rent vs. Buy: corrected the "Net Cost to Buy" figure at long time horizons — when buying comes out ahead, it now correctly shows a net gain instead of appearing as a cost.

New
- The annuity calculator can now cover a spouse (joint & survivor) — model income that continues to a surviving partner at 100%, 75%, or 50% (in Lifetime Income mode).
- The annuity calculator added an optional annual fee input, so variable and deferred annuity estimates can reflect real-world costs.
- Your Crypto Hub watchlist now follows your account. Star coins once and they're waiting for you on any device when you sign in.
- A new trust strip on the homepage and expanded annuity FAQs covering spouses and fees.
- This "What's New" page — so you can follow new features and fixes as they ship.
Improved
- Refreshed the light/dark theme toggle with crisp new icons across the whole site.
- Result figures now line up cleanly and no longer shift around as they update.
- Clearer annuity help text and methodology, now covering fees and spousal coverage.
- Signing out now clears your crypto watchlist from that browser — better privacy on shared devices.
Fixed
- Accessibility: every calculator input is now properly labeled for screen readers.
- Fixed input fields that appeared as bright white boxes in dark mode on the auto-loan calculator, plus hard-to-read numbers in its payment schedule.
- Improved color contrast in light mode and the numeric keypad on mobile across all calculators.
